Adding a battery to a SolarEdge solar system
SolarEdge's Home Battery 400V can be added to most single-phase SolarEdge inverters. HD-Wave inverters need a Home Network plug-in card; StorEdge and Home Hub inverters are listed as compatible directly. For backup, SolarEdge's UK brochure says you need the Home Hub inverter and Home Backup Interface. Batteries with their own inverter can also go alongside, based on those makers' general statements.
Compatibility by existing system
“General statement” means the battery maker says it can be added to existing solar in general, without naming SolarEdge. Your installer should confirm the details.

Not listed: Sigenergy SigenStor, Fox ESS EVO 10, Huawei LUNA2000-S1. We haven't found manufacturer documentation for adding these to an existing SolarEdge system, so we don't claim they work.
What changes on a retrofit
- Each HD-Wave inverter needs a SolarEdge Home Network plug-in card, fitted by a qualified installer. The battery then talks to the inverter wirelessly.
- On an inverter that isn't a StorEdge model, the battery's DC cable goes into one of the solar string inputs, or in parallel with the strings if there's only one input.
- The battery can be up to 50 m from the inverter. Up to 3 batteries per inverter (29.1 kWh usable).
- SolarEdge's battery warranty requires the battery to stay connected to an approved SolarEdge inverter and SolarEdge's monitoring for the whole 10 years.

Can I add a battery to my existing SolarEdge inverter?
Yes, SolarEdge documents adding its Home Battery 400V to HD-Wave single-phase inverters with a Home Network plug-in card. StorEdge and Home Hub inverters are listed as compatible directly. Up to three batteries can connect to one inverter.
Will a SolarEdge battery give me backup in a power cut?
SolarEdge's UK brochure says backup needs the SolarEdge Home Hub single-phase inverter and the Home Backup Interface. Adding a battery to an HD-Wave inverter on its own gives storage but not backup.
Can I use a non-SolarEdge battery with SolarEdge solar?
A battery with its own inverter can sit alongside existing solar. myenergi (libbi), Enphase (IQ Battery 5P), Tesla (Powerwall 3) and Sunsynk (ECCO) all say this in general terms, without naming SolarEdge. The SolarEdge Home Battery 400V itself only works with SolarEdge inverters.
